WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY SELECTS INTELLIGROUP AND KPMG PEAT MARWICK LLP
EDISON, N.J., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/-- Intelligroup. Inc. (Nasdaq: ITIG) today announced that Westinghouse Electric Company, selected Intelligroup, Inc. (ITIG), KPMG Peat Marwick LLP (KPMG) and SAP-America as part of a TeamSAP(TM) Approach to provide integration services to implement SAP R/3(TM) business software. The project leverages Intelligroup's extensive enterprise resource planning (ERP) application experience, off-shore development resources, and proven implementation skills along with project management expertise of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP and the ASAP(TM) methodology of SAP-America to help reduce system implementation time and cost for Westinghouse.
Westinghouse selected the ITIG/KPMG/SAP team because of the demonstrated expertise of the three business partners in rapid, complex multi-site SAP system implementations. The project scope includes the implementation of the R/3(TM) enterprise software at sites in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Utah. These installations of R/3(TM) will use SAP's ASAP(TM) methodology to assist Westinghouse in delivering the project on time and within budget.
"Our objective is to implement SAP R/3(TM) across Westinghouse in a manner that is most economical using an integration partner that demonstrated the best understanding of current Westinghouse operations," said Westinghouse Nuclear Services Division project manager, Michael Hecht. "KPMG, SAP, and Intelligroup showed us that they could quickly understand our business processes and work environment. The consulting team demonstrated a complete understanding of our goals and how an on-time, on-budget implementation of SAP software is critical to Westinghouse's achievement of projected business-case benefits."
The scope of the project includes the implementation of the production planning, sales & distribution, plant maintenance, project systems, materials management, quality management and human resources modules. The SAP ERP system will support more than 1,500 users when fully operational and is scheduled for a phased implementation for the nuclear services and fuel division GO-LIVE dates of June '99 and December '99, respectively. An agreement to purchase Westinghouse was signed in July by a joint venture of British Nuclear Fuels, LTD, and Morrison-Knudson, Inc. The SAP R/3(TM) implementation will allow the new company to serve customers in the nuclear power plant services market and nuclear fuels market more effectively through improved resource planning and consistency in commercial and financial processes.
"Westinghouse will use SAP R/3(TM) as the enterprise system to replace a complex legacy environment that today is expensive to maintain, and suffers from a Y2K problem in some areas. This will provide the first truly integrated view of operational capacities and associated costs which will allow the company to compete more effectively in the markets that they serve," said Intelligroup SAP Practice Partner, William L. Morton. "The integrated application suite will allow the company for the first time to provide visibility of all key performance indicators across the business, including product and service profitability and on-time delivery."
Today, both divisions of Westinghouse must use substantial manual effort to obtain service cost visibility and manage resources to deliver the products and services that they provide. R/3 will improve the company's ability to operate with greater flexibility and competitiveness.
"The SAP R/3(TM) software will improve Westinghouse's ability to track inventories and committed resources (people, equipment and materials) for nuclear service projects, understand manufacturing costs of nuclear products such as fuel assemblies and nuclear steam supply system spare parts, and provide Westinghouse with greater flexibility in managing resources across multiple projects," said Chris Savage, project manager for the Columbia Nuclear Fuels Division.
KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, SAP-America and Intelligroup, Inc. joined forces under the TeamSAP(TM) umbrella to win this project in a competitive environment. "We felt that the combined resources of KPMG with the experience and off-shore SAP development capabilities of Intelligroup provided the best value to Westinghouse," said Michael King, SAP Partner at KPMG Peat Marwick LLP.
SAP R/3(TM) is the market leader in client/server ERP software for
companies of all sizes and industry sectors. SAP's enterprise software
provides comprehensive support for more than 1,000 business processes,
allowing users to respond quickly and decisively to dynamic market
conditions.
