Washington Group International To Upgrade Clean Air System at Detroit Edison Power Plant

Boise, ID - Washington Group International Inc. announced that it has been selected to provide engineering and design services for a major environmental project at Detroit Edison's Monroe Power Plant in Monroe, Michigan, approximately 30 miles south of Detroit. The work underscores the company's expertise in the area of emissions reduction and continues its work at Detroit Edison's flagship facility, one of the largest and most efficient coal-fired plants in the United States.

"Detroit Edison's proactive environmental program includes a wide range of projects at fossil plants. Its repeat business with us recognizes Washington Group's significant expertise with air quality programs in addition to our excellent past performance," said Lou Pardi, president of Washington Group's Power Business Unit.

Washington Group is working with technology provider Riley Power to perform engineering and design for the installation of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system on the Monroe Power Plant's Unit 3. The SCR will reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. Washington Group also is performing other infrastructure modifications intended to support the plant's four units and future environmental projects.

Washington Group's work is being done under an alliance agreement signed with Detroit Edison in late 2004.
