TURBOTROL - Steam Turbine Control Solution

Source: ABB Power Plant Automation
The ABB TURBOTROL steam turbine control solution covers the protection and control requirements of a steam turbine, based on the Advant Power® platform
The ABB TURBOTROL steam turbine control solution covers the protection and control requirements of a steam turbine, based on the Advant Power® platform. Its modular structure has been designed to fit all applications of a steam turbine, from a single steam turbine in an arbitrary environment to the closely integrated single shaft combined cycle power plants.

Benefits:

  • The functions of the TURBOTROL steam turbine control system have been designed together with the turbine manufacturers. This close cooperation in the development ensures an optimal fit of the control system to the steam turbine process
  • Complete unit fully tested with dynamic simulator. The in-depth process know-how available within ABB permits the development of a full scope dynamic simulator to test the whole steam turbine control system before shipment on site
  • The TURBOTROL makes use of several unique features of the Advant Power® platform, which have been optimized to fit the most demanding requirements of utility steam turbines
Features:
  • Open system architecture
  • Redundant processing and communication capabilities
  • Modular structure of hardware and software
  • Comprehensive diagnostics
  • Engineering, documentation and service tool with online configuration, debugging and documentation
  • Seamless integration into ABB power plant automation solutions
Functions:
  • Base Control Level, which performs safe manual operation of the steam turbine
  • Automatic Control Level, which is the extension of the base control level, designed to provide more comfort to turbine operation
  • Fail-safe design for safety of personnel and equipment with a fault tolerant 2 out of 3 safety system
  • Complete unit fully works tested with simulator. Robust construction suitable for power plant conditions
