Tata Power Crosses 500 MW Landmark Of Renewable Energy Generation Capacity

• Increases Wind Energy capacity to 460.6 MW and Solar Energy to 54 MW
• Total Clean energy capacity of the Company stands at 1170 MW

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, recently announced crossing the milestone of 500 MW renewable energy capacity with the commissioning of a Solar Plant at Palaswadi, Maharashtra. This achievement is in line with the Company’s commitment to have a 20-25 per cent contribution in energy generated from "clean power sources" that includes a mix of Hydro, Solar, Wind, Geothermal, and Waste Gas generation. Today, Tata Power has a total operating capacity of 460.6 MW from Wind farms and 54 MW in Solar Generation. In addition, the Company has 447 of hydro and 202.5 MW from waste gas-based generation.

With this milestone, Tata Power’s total generation installed capacity stands at 8585 MW, with 1170 MW from clean energy sources. Furthermore, the Company has aggressive plans to increase its generation capacity from green energy sources alone based on projects that are already in advance stage of execution and development. These projects include a 25 MW AC Solar Plant located at Palaswadi, Maharashtra, a 32 MW wind energy project located at Ambheri, Maharashtra, a 126 MW being implemented in Bhutan by Dagachhu Hydro Power Corporation, a 49.5 MW wind energy project in Pethshivpur, a 94.8 MW wind power generation project currently under execution in South Africa, a 134.4 MW wind power generation project in Amakhala Emoyeni and a 185 MW hydroelectric project in Southwest Georgia. Tata Power has a dedicated team that looks for opportunities in the renewable energy space and development of clean technology. The Company has been working in different areas of renewable power generation – both grid connected as well as distributed generation. Tata Power has also joined hands with different national institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology and University Department of Chemical Technology, and also interacts with leading research labs and Universities in Europe and USA in developing pilot and demonstration projects in the renewable resource power generation.

Tata Power currently has five of its renewable projects registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). These are the 50.4 MW Wind project at Gadag in Karnataka, the 50.4 MW Wind project at Khandke in Maharashtra, the 50.4 MW Wind project at Samana in Gujarat and the 39.2 MW Wind project at Saurashtra, Gujarat and the 25 MW Solar project at Mithapur, Gujarat.
