Structural Group buys Pullman Power Products

Structural Group buys Pullman Power Products

Structural Group, a specialty contractor based in Hanover, MD, recently bought Pullman Power Products from RESCO Holdings for an undisclosed amount, said Peter Emmons, the group's CEO.

The company, now known as just Pullman Power, designs and builds reinforced concrete chimneys and silos. It also provides after-market services, including inspection, repair and maintenance, strengthening, and demolition services. Pullman Power plans to operate as a subsidiary of Structural Group, with headquarters in Kansas City, MO.

Pullman Power serves a broad base of domestic and international customers in three primary sectors—power generation, industrial processing, and incineration. Since its founding in 1902, the company has managed more than 10,000 projects throughout the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean Basin, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Far East, and Australia.

Besides its administrative and operating facilities in Kansas City, Pullman Power maintains regional after-market service centers in Pittsburgh, PA; Salt Lake City, UT; and Birmingham, AL.

Pullman Power's installed base includes reinforced concrete chimneys and silos, refractory lined steel stacks, slipform concrete towers, hyperbolic cooling towers, and concrete foundation installations. The company designed and constructed five of the six tallest reinforced concrete chimneys in the world.

According to Emmons, Structural Group plans to retain the existing leadership, administrative, sales, and field staff. "We're delighted to welcome Pullman into the family of Structural Group companies," he said. "Pullman is one of the best-known entities in the international chimney construction and after-market services business. It has justly developed a reputation over many years for engineering expertise, innovation, and large turnkey capabilities, as well as its commitment to safety."

The Pullman acquisition, Emmons said, fits neatly into Structural Group's business mission of being that "One Source, Many Solutions." Structural Group (www.structural.net) consists of several businesses, including Structural Preservation Systems (structural repair services), and VStructural (post-tensioning systems and services).

Through its strengthening division, the company also provides services to restore or add strength to structures, and its GeoStructural unit focuses on foundation strengthening, settlement control and slope stabilization projects.

"Most of our markets are growing because of aging infrastructure," Emmons said. "But we've also made a strategic decision to diversify, both geographically and into other segments of the construction market. Pullman Power gives us greater entry into several new fields, plus it adds to our capabilities in chimney construction and repair."
