S&S Energy Supplies Six Gensets for Spanish Cogen Projects

S&S Energy Products (SSEP) plans to supply six GE LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbine-generator sets for four cogeneration projects in Spain, company officials announced at Power-Gen Europe in Helsinki last week.

The four power plants use the 43 MW ISO-rated LM6000PC natural gas turbine equipped with a standard combustion system. Independent power producers are developing each project highlighted below, and plan to sell excess power to local grids.

Abener Energia — Two LM6000 generator sets will operate at this 88 MW SNIACE Cogeneración combined-cycle facility in Torrelavega. The host company, SNIACE, a pulp for paper production facility, plans to use the steam and electricity from this power plant. Commercial operation should start by the end of the second quarter.

Alabe-Sergas — Two LM6000 gas turbines will be used in combined-cycle configuration for this power plant. The cogeneration plant plans to provide steam and electricity to two Michelin tire manufacturing plants, one in Valladolid and the other in Vitoria. Commercial operation is slated the fourth quarter.

Peninsular Cogeneración — One LM6000 gas turbine-generator set will be used in combined-cycle mode at this cogeneration plant to provide power and steam to the Papelera Peninsular, a paper mill in Fuenlabrada. Commercial start-up of this power plant should take place in the first quarter of 2001.

Abener Energia — One LM6000 gas turbine-generator set will be installed in Cogeneración Motril, a 48.8 MW combined cycle plant that will supply steam and electricity to the host industry, TORRASPAPEL, a paper mill in Motril, Granada. The company expects commercial operation to start in the first quarter 2001.

SSEP's sister company, GE Aeroderivative and Package Services, plans to implement long-term service agreements at each power plant to cover routine maintenance and overhaul of the LM6000 gas turbines.
