Siemens Receives Orders from All Over the World

Siemens Power Generation Group (KWU) has received orders to construct power plants in the U.S., the United Arab Emirates, Hungary, India and Indonesia. These orders combined are valued at approximately $840 million.

The U.S. orders were from Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Springfield, MO), and Oglethorpe Power Corporation (Atlanta, GA). Siemens will conduct the turnkey construction of a 525-megawatt, natural gas-fired combined-cycle plant for AEC. The new plant, which will be built in Oklahoma, will be powered by two 180-megawatt V84 3A combustion turbines and a 165-megawatt steam turbine-generator. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter 1999 with commercial operation slated for July 2000. The project also includes a long-term, full-scope operations and maintenance contract.

Oglethorpe Power Corporation, a power supply cooperative serving 39 Electric Membership Corporations in Georgia, awarded Siemens a contract for the turnkey construction of a 217-megawatt, natural gas-fired simple-cycle power plant. Powered by two model V84.2 gas turbine-generators, the plant will be located in Monroe County, GA, and will support peak power demand in the region. Construction has started, with commercial operation expected in June, 1999.

Siemens/KWU's order from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) includes supplying a power plant and a seawater desalination plant from the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) and the U.S. CMS Energy Corp. Siemens and Hanjung, the Korean industrial corporation, will build the power and desalination plants on a turnkey basis. The 710-megawatt Al Taweelah 2 combined cycle plant will be powered by three V94.3A combustion turbines with an output of 185 megawatt under site conditions and two 110-megawatt steam turbine-generators. Siemens also will supply power plant components and instrumentation and control equipment for the power and seawater desalination plant. The plant as a whole will start commercial operation in September 2001. Al Taweelah 2 is the first independent power project in the Gulf region.

Siemens will supply a 150-megawatt V94.2 combustion turbine-generator and the associated instrumentation and control equipment for the Lörinci power plant in Hungary. The plant will supply peak load power and is scheduled to enter commercial operation in January 2000.

In India, Siemens will supply a 150-megawatt V94.2 combustion turbine-generator and the associated instrumentation and control equipment for the 430-megawatt Faridabad combined-cycle power plant located south of New Delhi. The plant will be equipped with two gas turbine-generators and one steam turbine-generator. Commercial operation is expected in summer 1999.

In Indonesia, Siemens will supply a cogeneration plant in Sumatra for P.T. Mandau Cipta Tenaga Nusantara (MCTN), Jakarta. The North Duri Cogeneration Plant will be powered by three Siemens Westinghouse 121-megawatt 501D5A combustion turbine-generators. The plant will produce 305-megawatts of electricity and steam, which will be used for enhanced oil recovery at the Duri Field in Sumatra. Commercial operation is expected to begin in the fourth quarter 2000.
