Siemens Notches Up Another Success For H-Class Gas Turbine Power Plant Solution

Erlangen Germany - Siemens has won the order for the supply of a single-shaft power island with H-Class technology for the Samsun Cengiz Enerji combined-cycle power plant in Turkey. The customer is Cengiz Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., an independent power production (IPP) company, which will build and also operate the plant. With the SGT5-8000H and its core component, the plant will feature an installed capacity of approximately 600 megawatts (MW) and an efficiency of almost 61 per cent. This will make Cengiz's Plant in Samsun the most efficient fossil-fired power plant in Turkey. Commissioning is scheduled for the start of 2015. The total order volume, which includes a long-term service contract, will be almost EUR300 million.

Cengiz Enerji's Samsun combined-cycle power plant is located east of Samsun, the largest city in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. It operates on natural gas and has an installed capacity of around 600 megawatts. The Siemens scope of supply comprises a power island which includes an SGT5-8000H gas turbine, an SST5-5000 steam turbine and an SGen5-3000W generator. Siemens will also supply a Benson heat recovery steam generator, the electrical system, the SPPA-T3000 control system, and auxiliary and ancillary systems. On top of this, Siemens has signed a long-term service contract for the equipment, which will help reduce emissions, and ensure reliability and availability of the plant. The power plant will be configured as a single-shaft plant. Plants of this kind are very flexible and designed for 250 starts per year. They are capable of producing full load in as little as 30 minutes after six hours shutdown. Furthermore, they react very quickly to grid fluctuations and can adapt their output by more than 35 MW within one minute to meet the changing power requirements.

The Turkish power plant market is developing dynamically and is subject to stiff competition. It requires flexible, environmentally benign power generation plants which can feature high in the merit order ranking. "Our new plant in Samsun will meet Cengiz Enerji's requirements for a flexible power plant with short startup times and fast load capability and will be the perfect complement to our power plant fleet", says Ömer Mafa, CEO of Cengiz Enerji.
