Shell Chemical Company Awards Polymer Project to Jacobs

N/ATH=80% CELLPADDING=10> Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to provide engineering and procurement services for a Carilon(TM) Polymer Unit for <%=company%>. The plant will be constructed at Shell's Geismar, La. chemical complex. Carilon(TM) Polymers are a new family of aliphatic polyketone engineering polymers.

The contract value was not disclosed. This first, fully commercial unit in the United States will produce 55 million pounds per year of product and will be readily expandable as the market develops for this new engineered plastic. Shell plans to place the unit into production in early 1999.

Carilon(TM) polymers and compounds exhibit a unique blend of stiffness, toughness, temperature resistance, and chemical resistance balanced with good processability. Due to their superior chemical and permeation resistance, they can be exposed to a wide variety of industrial, automotive, and consumer chemicals with minimal effect on mechanical properties, thus meeting the needs of many applications in the oil and gas, appliance, transportation, electrical, consumer, and other industries.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Tom Hammond stated, "Jacobs has enjoyed a long-term relationship with Shell Chemical at the Geismar facility and is pleased to be a key player in this leading-edge polymer technology."

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is one of the largest global engineering and construction firms, specializing in the full spectrum of project delivery services including engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance.
