The WKA 1000 Shaft Seal is for sealing off highly compressed gaseous media in steam turbines, turbocompressors and other compressor types. This is a labyrinth seal fitted with seal rings, which are accommodated in the housing in a floating bearing arrangement. It can be run with a very small operating gap, thus promoting low gas consumption. The seal ring is in one-piece design and comprises two components: a carbon ring and a collar into which the carbon ring is compressed. This design gives the unit the stability it requires when subject to extremely high-pressure differentials. It is designed for dry running and requires no additional lubrication.

The modular chamber housing of this product means that the user can determine how many seal rings and chamber segments are required to suit the respective operating conditions, and then mount them in tandem arrangement on the shaft. The integrated vibration damping facility means that even at negative pressure the shaft seal can be run at full speed without causing additional vibration. Operating efficiency can be increased even further by operating a chamber with a buffer gas supply or suction.
