Sentry Equipment Introduces GuardSA Smart Chemistry Alarms For Steam Power Plants

EPRI logic-based system provides real-time intelligence and guidance for chemistry events

Sentry Equipment, a global provider of representative sampling and analysis technologies, has introduced Sentry GuardSA, a smart chemistry alarm system for power plants. GuardSA is an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) logic-based system that monitors signals generated by steam and water analysis systems (SWAS) and utilizes smart alarms logic to provide power plant operators with intelligence and guidance for resolving a chemical event in real time.

GuardSA is the first industry solution to combine SWAS analyzer signals into an easy-to-implement solution utilizing EPRI logic, an industry recognized data management system and cutting-edge user interface, which allows real chemical events to be recognized and resolved quickly and effectively. The system replaces the current manual process for analyzing SWAS alarm signals, which when used alone are not always accurate and do not identify a specific chemistry event or how to resolve the problem. GuardSA delivers alarms only when actionable chemistry events occur and provides power plant operators with event specific guidance and customized troubleshooting advice.

“Immediate action is critical in a real chemical event, but SWAS alarms require manual evaluation and troubleshooting, which can take hours, or even days to resolve, and often require plant operators to involve a chemist,” said John Powalisz, Director of Business Development. “GuardSA simultaneously receives and interprets signals to deliver unprecedented, real-time insight and guidance to power plant operators managing a chemistry event.”

GuardSA utilizes EPRI smart alarm logic and the Wonderware data management system platform and is designed to manage most plant types and chemistry programs. It features an intuitive, touchscreen user interface and supports analyzer inputs for all EPRI smart alarms, plus auxiliary analyzer inputs, allowing for up to three units in groups of 60 or 180 input points total.
