RWE NUKEM Awarded Nuclear Waste Processing System For Power Station

Columbia, SC — RWE NUKEM Corporation has been selected by Mexico's ComisiĆ³n Federal de Electricidad (CFE) to provide a High Conductivity Waste Processing System (HCWPS) to CFE's Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Station (LVNPS) in the State of Veracruz. The $3M HCWPS will be designed to process annually up to 5 million gallons of radioactive liquid waste. It consists of a reverse osmosis system with ultrafiltration, a backflushable filter, a concentrate dryer and ancillary components. The reverse osmosis system removes radioactivity from the waste stream. The concentrate dryer volume reduces waste concentrates to maximize disposal efficiency.

"We are proud to serve Mexico's only nuclear power plant and look forward to a good and close working relationship with our customer," says John M. Raymont, President and CEO of RWE NUKEM Corporation.

RWE NUKEM Corporation provides safe, compliant, and cost-effective radioactive waste management solutions through the innovative application of proven technologies. RWE NUKEM Corporation is a member of the RWE NUKEM Group, an international group of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and fuel cycle service companies formed in 1960 with about $400 million in sales and 1,100 staff.
