RENOVA Announces Start Of Operations At Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant
RENOVA, Inc. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & CEO: Yosuke Kiminami; hereafter, “RENOVA”) is pleased to announce that the Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant (Omaezaki City, Shizuoka Prefecture / Installed capacity: 75.0 MW), in which RENOVA has a stake, started operation on January 29, 2025.
This power plant has a capacity of 75.0 MW and is fueled by wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS). Preparations for this facility were made by Omaezakikou Biomass Energy G.K., which is jointly funded by RENOVA, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; President and Director: Kingo Hayashi), Mitsubishi Electric Financial Solutions Corporation (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Hiroyuki Koike) and Suzuyo Shoji Co., Ltd. (Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture; President and Representative Director: Masahiko Ito).
This power plant is located at the Port of Omaezaki in the southernmost part of Shizuoka Prefecture at the mouth of Suruga Bay. The Port of Omaezaki has great advantages in terms of land, sea and air transport as it has good links not only to Pacific Ocean shipping lanes but also to the Tomei and Shin-Tomei Expressways and Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport. It has been playing a significant role as a major base for logistics and industrial development of the middle-western area of the prefecture. Having begun operating, the power plant is expected to help revitalize the economy of the region centered on the cities of Omaezaki and Makinohara through the increased utilization of the port and harbor facilities due to the arrival and departure of fuel carriers and the creation of new jobs. It is also expected to help increase the renewable energy usage ratio.
Going forward, we will operate the power plant while prioritizing safety and coexistence with the local community. We seek to contribute to the achievement of a decarbonized society by gaining the understanding and cooperation of local residents and other stakeholders.
