R-Side® Solution - Conversions

As any experienced chiller or process refrigeration technician knows, conversions from CFC to HFC refrigerants require the elimination of mineral oil from the system due to its' immiscibility with HFC refrigerant. The traditional method for accomplishing this task involves draining the oil from the sump, removing the CFC refrigerant and recharging with HFC refrigerants. This method further requires the performance of repeated and costly ester oil (POE) flushes and filter changes in hopes of ridding the system of the remaining mineral oil. Despite best efforts, this traditional technique often results in sludge buildup and an accumulation on the tubes with the resultant reduction in heat transfer efficiency and capacity.

Hudson's RefrigerantSide® Solution obviates the problems associated with the traditional methods and assures a successful conversion. This process uses the chiller's recovered CFC refrigerant for the decontamination process instead of multiple changes of POE. It is the unique ability to recover, rapidly distill the refrigerant on-site and reintroduce the purified product into the system in a continuous process until online instrumentation verifies the removal of all traces of oil that assures a purified system free of virtually mineral oil and other accumulated contaminants.
