Power-Gen '98: GE to Supply Nuovo Pignone With Lm6000 Turbines for Amerada Hess Fpso

GE Industrial AeroDerivative Gas Turbines (GE-IAD) announced at the Power-Gen '98 show in Orlando, FL that the company will supply Nuovo Pignone (Florence, Italy) with two GE LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbines. The units will be used for power generation aboard the Triton floating production, storage and off-loading vessel (FPSO), GE-IAD. The FPSO is being built by U.K.-based Kvaerner Oil & Gas, and will be moored at Amerada Hess' Bittem and Guillemot West Fields in the North Sea. The 43-megawatt LM6000 gas turbines will be fired by natural gas. The Triton FPSO will be operated by Amerada Hess on behalf of the partners in the Triton development owned by Amerada Hess Ltd., in the United Kingdom.

The LM6000 gas turbine-generator sets are well-suited for FPSO applications where, similar to conventional offshore platforms, lightweight and compact equipment is needed due to space constraints.

Nuovo Pignone will place the LM6000 gas turbines into power generation skid-mounted packages at its Massa, Italy manufacturing plant near Pisa. Nuovo Pignone will also supply Kvaerner Oil & Gas with two corresponding electric generators and a common boiler waste heat recovery unit. The gas turbines were manufactured by GE-IAD at its Evendale, OH facility. Installation of the LM6000 gas turbine packages on the Bittem and Guillemot West Fields Triton FPSO will occur in the first quarter of 1999.
