Porvair Filtration Group is supplying a prestigious academic institution in Beijing, China, with a self cleaning high pressure Helium filtration system for use in the fuel handling system in their ground breaking, developmental high temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactor.

At present, the vast majority of nuclear power plants operating globally still uses second generation or improved second generation technology. The development of a 50-100 mWE output Pebble Bed Modular (PBMR) high temperature gas-cooled reactor plant in China offers significant benefits over previous generation systems in terms of operational safety and increased efficiency of thermoelectric conversion. The High Temperature Gas Reactor (HTGR) is a fourth generation development that uses a graphite-moderated nuclear reactor with a once-through uranium fuel cycle. The high operational temperature (1000 °C) of the new 4G nuclear reactor also enables economic implementation of applications such as process heat or hydrogen production via the thermochemical sulfur-iodine cycle.

Porvair Filtration Group is actively involved in virtually every step of the nuclear fuel production process including uranium concentrate and spent fuel reprocessing, the production of Uranium and Plutonium Oxides, the treatment of off-gases and the protection of HEPA banks. Porvair's innovative filtration products are also used in venting of fluidized bed processes, powder transport and collection, glove box venting and sintering furnace off-gas purification.

Porvair Filtration Group has more than 25 years experience in supplying high quality filtration solutions for nuclear power generation, fuel production, reprocessing, decontamination and decommissioning and waste packaging applications in Europe, the USA and the UK. As an engineering company specializing in the filtration industry, Porvair Filtration Group are able to take an initial discussion to a fully optimized solution, meeting material, code and technical requirements thereby providing a total solution to a specific problem.
