Plant Professionals (P2) Offers OSHA-Compliant Program For Coal-Fired Power Plants
Safe+ Program Shields Energy Companies from Penalties
Montgomery, IL - Plant Professionals, a division of Benetech, Inc., has announced its Safe+ Program, a risk management and compliance solution that will help coal-fired power plants respond to the new OSHA combustible dust national emphasis program.
The new OSHA National Emphasis Program, OSHA CPL 03-00-006, issued October 18, 2007, is a broad mandate focusing on the safety practices of combustible dust handlers, including power plants. Under the program, random inspections can occur without prior notification, and violations can result in citations and fines of up to $70,000 per violation, along with potential civil penalties.
Plant Professional's Safe+ Program was created to prevent risk of fires and explosions. The program also protects plants from exposure to fines and penalties associated with the new OSHA mandate. It provides the support of an expert team that includes former OSHA inspectors, and includes:
- A field assessment survey to evaluate dust hazards, housekeeping practices, and other factors that present a noncompliance risk
- A compliance implementation plan
- A format for OSHA compliance, including ongoing assessment, documentation and plant management updates
- Staff training and education on OSHA standards and audits
"Plant Professionals (P2) has always been a proactive advocate of reducing plant risk profiles to ensure coal-fired power plant availability and safety," said Ron Pircon, President and CEO of Benetech, Inc. "P2 consultants have collectively logged over 800 years of utility coal handling and operating experience, performed over 100 fuel conversions, and collectively spearheaded over 1,500 projects for enhanced safety in the coal-yard workplace. Our total dust management technologies and risk assessments enhance safety and profitability, regardless of compliance issues."
