OSI Software, Inc.ting Sophisticated Calculations On-Line
The Performance Equations module allows the user to implement sophisticated on-line calculations without having to program in high-level languages. Each performance equation is associated with a PI point, and the calculation results are stored in the PI Data Archive just as they would be for any other PI point. The user can configure the performance equation point to be evaluated periodically by the Performance Equation Scheduler (time-based). Alternatively, the user can configure the performance equation point to be evaluated when a rate point changes to a particular value (event-based).

Performance equations allow engineers to write calculations that include fluid properties or models of process units. Equations can also be used as mathematical expressions to calculate values that cannot be obtained directly from the plant instrumentation, such as " compensated flows."
Additional uses of PI-PE include:
     Heat and material balances
     Unit Performance
     Real-time cost accounting
     Grade based costing
     Batch summaries

PI-PE Steam
PI-PE Steam is an optional module that includes functions that calculate the thermodynamic properties of steam within Performance Equations. These functions are converted from the software distribution of ASME's Steam Tables, 6th Edition. The functions support both English units and SI units.

PI Totalizer Subsystem
The PI Totalizer is a separate subsystem that simplifies making common calculations, such as totals, averages, minimums, maximums, range and standard deviations. PI Totalizer is also able to count events.
