OPUS® Technology: An Innovation For Cooling Tower Blowdown Treatment

OPUS® technology achieves a high water recovery rate, producing effluent suitable for reuse. The major benefits for Power Plants is an increase in the cycles of concentration in your cooling tower, resulting in reduced water and chemical use while minimizing waste discharge from your facility.

OPUS® Technology is a patented Optimized Pretreatment and Unique Separation process developed for the treatment of complex wastewater streams such as cooling tower blowdown. OPUS Technology utilizes reverse osmosis (RO) operated at an elevated pH. The pretreatment processes ahead of the RO are designed to reduce the hardness, metals and suspended solids in the feed water. The elevated pH of the RO feed water effectively controls biological, organic and particulate fouling, eliminates scaling due to silica, and increases the rejection of silica and boron.

OPUS is available with two RO pretreatment options:

  1. Our original design utilizes degasification (if required), chemical softening, media filtration and ion exchange softening prior to the RO system.
  2. OPUS® II, our latest innovation, streamlines the pretreatment steps through the use of CeraMem® ceramic membranes. The ceramic membrane system consists of a series of reaction tanks followed by a crystallization tank fitted with our patented Turbomix™ reactor prior to the ceramic membranes.
