Neuman & Esser has been providing quality equipment, parts and service for almost 170 years. Founded in 1830, Neuman & Esser on Hirschgraben in Aachen, Germany. The company's founding name of J.L. Neuman & Cie. Maschinenfabrik was later changed to the company's current trade mark name of Neuman & Esser Aachen (NEA) in 1844.

Originally, the first products of the company consisted of vertical and cartwright beam steam engines, hydraulic elevators and also water supply systems. After over fifty years at the original location, the company moved to a new factory in 1888. The location of this facility was in Süsterfeld in Aachen. Remarkably, the factory would prove to be the home of Neuman & Esser for 84 years. Currently, the location is part of the Technical University of Aachen.1888 also marked the year that Neuman & Esser introduced their first line of reciprocating air compressors and other horizontal steam powered machines. Later, reciprocating steam powered equipment, compressors, vacuum pumps, and liquid pumps of diverse sizes complemented the product lines in 1900.

In 1930, Neuman & Esser developed their first line of dry running non-lubricated compressors. These machines proved to become an essential product line upon which Neuman & Esser has expanded.

The 1970's proved to be a decade of spectacular change for Neuman & Esser. In 1972, the company moved again. This time the company moved from its Susterfeld location to Übach-Palenberg, Germany. This small town is located approximately 15 miles north of Aachen. The factory still serves as the worldwide headquarters of the NEA Group. In 1977, Neuman & Esser acquired the reciprocating compressor line from Halberg and 1979 marked the development of the company's current process compressor line.

Today, this product line is the company's flagship business. Neuman & Esser remains committed to solving our customers complex compression needs. Our research and development group continues the process of designing better machines for the most complicated process applications our customer's require.

The late 1980's marked the founding of NEAC Compressor Service. NEAC was a joint venture between Atlas Copco and Neuman & Esser and provided OEM parts and service for many brands of compressors. These include Erhard & Sehmer, KSB, Halberg, Linde (Lotema), Atlas Copco, NEA and recently Chicago Pneumatic Reciprocating Compressors. The joint venture between NEA and Atlas Copco is still going strong in the United States. However, Neuman & Esser wholly own the other NEAC entities.

The 1990's proved the decade of growth for Neuman & Esser. Early in the decade the second production facility, Neuman & Esser Maschinenfabrik Wurzen was founded from the privatized Maschinenfabrik Wurzen. The factory is located in Wurzen, Germany; just outside Leipzig in former East Germany. Neuman & Esser also founded sales and application centers located in Milan, Italy; Houston, Texas, USA, Belo Horizonte, Brazil and recently in Ciro, Egypt. The company also has numerous sales offices and agents.

Neuman & Esser has always been a closely held private company. In fact the family Peters has owned the company since 1893 when Oskar Peters purchased the company. The family is very active in the management of the company and has proven instrumental in guiding the company to continued growth and prosperity.
