660 MW Unit-1 Of SJVN's Buxar Thermal Power Project Successfully Achieved Commercial Operation

Shri Bhupendra Gupta , Chairman & Managing Director , SJVN informed that SJVN has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Unit -1 (660 MW) of 1320 MW ( 2x660 MW) Buxar Thermal Power Project today , which is a significant milestone in the Company's journey towards strengthening the power generation capacity of the nation.

Shri Gupta congratulated all the employees for this remarkable achievement and said that this success not only reflects the technical excellence of SJVN but also reflects the dedication and coordinated efforts of the employees , contractors and all stakeholders.

Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma , Director (Personnel), commended the collective efforts of all concerned teams and emphasized that this achievement exemplifies SJVN's commitment to efficient execution and high-quality project delivery. He stated that this achievement is a testament to SJVN's strong organizational capabilities and teamwork.

Shri Sipan Kumar Garg , Director (Finance) said that the commissioning of Unit -1 will further strengthen SJVN's power generation portfolio and consolidate its position as a diversified energy company contributing to India's sustainable energy development.

The 1320 MW ( 2 x 660 MW) Buxar Thermal Power Project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, Bihar, is being executed by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN. The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, virtually inaugurated the first 660 MW unit of the project on August 22 , 2025. Equipped with state-of-the-art supercritical technology, the project ensures high efficiency and low environmental impact. The project will generate 9,828.72 MU of electricity annually , of which 85% has been allocated to Bihar under a long-term power purchase agreement. The project will significantly increase power availability in Bihar and the eastern region , reduce peak power shortages, and strengthen energy security.
