The Mimic Control System allows you to control shipboard devices from your computer console
What is the Mimic Control System?

The Mimic Control System allows you to control shipboard devices from your computer console. In the past, personnel went to dedicated panels to flip switches, open and close valves, and turn compressors and pumps on and off manually. Now, you can use the Mimic Control System to perform these (and many more) functions with the click of a mouse. You can also view real-time status information such as tank levels, gage and sensor values, and whether a system is on or off.

What is the benefit of the system?

The Mimic Control System can run on many computers at once. Networking the computers allows you the flexibility of performing functions from various locations on the ship. Also, other workstations networked together and running the system can see the actions performed at other workstations as they occur. In other words, no matter which workstation you look at, all of the information will reflect the status of the entire system. The system also decreases the amount of time it takes personnel to perform the functions and gather the data (readings) needed to complete a task.

Who uses the system?

The Basic Operator can view the Mimic Control System and use it to control shipboard devices. There are no editor privileges associated with this user level.

The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining the user passwords and the viewing restrictions associated with each workstation. The System Administrator can also calibrate sensors, the real-time values that appear in a mimic's sensor blocks, if applicable, but he cannot edit the configuration of the mimic.

The System Designer (usually not shipboard personnel) evaluates the ship's control systems and creates the schematics you see when you open the Mimic Control System. These schematics are termed mimics because they represent the ship's actual systems including the values, pumps, switches, fans, and other devices.
