Korean Electric Power Company Orders DETECT MERLIN™ Bird Radar System For Wind Farm Project In Jordan

The advanced bird radar system will be used for bird monitoring and protection at the Fujeij Wind Project.

Panama City, FL (PRWEB) - DeTect, Inc. (http://www.detect-inc.com) today announced it will install, operate and maintain a MERLIN Avian Radar System (ARS) at the Fujeij Wind farm in Jordan. The MERLIN radar unit will be built at DeTect’s manufacturing plant in Panama City, Florida and shipped to Jordan for installation at the wind farm. The ARS will primarily be monitoring breeding raptors and other threatened birds species in this area of Jordan.

Once the wind farm is operational, DeTect’s MERLIN SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) functionality will provide advance “early” warning (out to 3-8 miles) to the wind farm ornithologists and managers of approaching migratory or individual birds under mortality risk conditions. At this stage they can elect to shut down individual or all the turbines in the park. “DeTect’s MERLIN SCADA”, said Edward Zakrajsek – General Manager EU & Middle East, “is the only proven bird and bat mortality risk technology in operational use at wind farms for protection of migratory birds, resident birds, raptors and bats. This is a very important and exciting project for DeTect and the MERLIN radar will monitor bird activity within the wind park, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
