IIR's Report Provides Information on Foreign Industrial Projects

Industrial Information Resources (IIR)'s International Project Spending Report identifies foreign industrial capital work months or even years before bidding starts. The report identifies capital projects in the power, refining, chemical, metals, paper, and high-tech industries in the world's biggest emerging markets. It helps companies find projects needing specialized products or services. The report contains a project scope, value (US$), product and service requirements, and a timetable. All reports are phone-verified by three key contacts to ensure accuracy.

At the top of IIR's Brazilian report is Angra III, a 1300-megawatt nuclear power plant owned by ElectroNuclear. EletroNuclear selected Siemans to develop the $2 billion dollar plant. It will be located outside Rio de Janeiro near Angra Dos Reis. IIR reported on the design work that is expected to be completed by January 1999, the construction that will begin in June 1999, and completion date set for early 2005.

Siemans will supply Angra's pressurized water reactor and 1300-megawatt turbine. Steam generator, vessel, pump, and condenser contracts remain open. Additional requirements include civil, mechanical, structural, and environmental services. When finished. The plant will provide residential power to Rio de Janeiro.

IIR also reported plans for several natural gas-fired plant. Cogentrix Energy may spend $425 million to build 250-megawatt facilities in Cubatao, Paulina and Santo Andre. Eletrobras may build a $260-million, 600-megawatt plant in Campos. CMS Energy is considering a $290-million, 400-megawatt plant in Maceio. Look for bids on these projects early next year.
