With HydroCOM, the capacity of a reciprocating compressor is steplessly controlled, using hydraulic power and electronic time control to define the motion of the compressor valve. The HydroCOM system provides a control range of 1 – 100%, from idling to full load.

The gas volume compressed per stroke can be regulated steplessly with HydroCOM's actuator, which controls the motion of the suction valves. By means of the hydraulically actuated unloader, the suction valve closing is delayed. Part of the gas in the cylinder flows back into the suction chamber. After closing the suction valve, compression of the remaining gas in the cylinder is started. With HydroCOM, compressor capacity is defined by the closing time, which is set electronically. The actuator consists of a high pressure piston generating a force acting on the unloader. The oil flow and valve motion is controlled via an extremely fast switching solenoid valve.

Some of HydroCOM's other features include: less wiring between CIU-DCS, if Modbus-wired; straight forward control algorithm; no valve flutters; rod load reversals at zero-load; leak detection in valves, piston rings and piston rod packings; ease of installation; and link to existing DCS through Modbus.

HydroCOM has a maximum suction pressure of 2,320 psi; maximum suction valve temperature of 220°F; maximum unloader force of 1,800 lbs.; and maximum compressor speed of 1,200 rpm. It is suited for corrosive environments and unlubricated conditions.

Hoerbiger is the largest independent compressor valve manufacturer in the world, employing over 3,000 people and maintaining production facilities in 30 countries.
