HQ Energy Services Joins NEPOOL

Hydro-Quebec announces that its subsidiary HQ Energy Services became a member of the New England Power Pool on June 1, 1998. The President of HQ Energy Services , Matthew Larocque pointed out that his subsidiary will now be ``in direct contact with the main players on the New England electricity market and thus better able to conduct advantageous transactions involving both Quebec and the Northeast.''

The New England Power Pool, known widely as NEPOOL, provides the framework for the New England electricity market. Its main functions are to schedule and operate the New England generation and transmission system to achieve a high level of reliability, open access to the transmission system and effective wholesale electricity market in that region.

The new status of HQ Energy Services means that the company now has direct access to the installed generating capacity market and will also be able to do business in other future NEPOOL markets.
