Bodycote IMT, Inc. is the premier Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) provider in North America. Headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, our regional service centers are in London, Ohio; Princeton, Kentucky; and Camas, Washington. It was founded as Industrial Materials Technology, Inc. in 1968 by Dr. Robert Widmer, a pioneer in the HIP industry. Under Bodycote, it has grown to four regional centers with 23 HIP units and four CIP units capable of providing just in time services across the United States and Canada. Bodycote IMT has two of the largest and most cost effective HIP units in the world and the first production DENSAL unit for high volume aluminum casting densification among its equipment repertoire.
HIP is a high-pressure, thermal process used to densify castings without distortion, to compact large powder metal billets and near net shapes and to diffusion bond clad composite materials. HIP was first developed by researchers at Battelle Memorial Institute in 1955 and has grown to become a $50 million service industry in the U.S. It is poised for further dramatic growth as both price and delivery have responded to new equipment innovations.
