Heat Exchanger Performance is a user-friendly program for the analysis of two types of heat exchangers: shell and multi-tube exchangers, and double pipe exchangers. In either case, the tubes are of the bare-tube type. The program analyzes the performance of a known heat exchanger. Given the flows and inlet temperatures of the tube-side fluid and the shell-side fluid, the program predicts the exit temperatures of both fluids and the total heat exchanged.

The program also has built-in the properties for water and dry air. However, it can analyze the performance for any type of single-phase fluids. It uses rigorous formulations for Reynolds number, Prandlt number, and Nusselt number to predict the film coefficient for both the shell-side and the tube-side and the overall heat transfer coefficient. The tubes may be of any material and any thickness. Fouling factors may be of the percent clean type or of the fouling factors type for both the shell-side and the tube-side. The program also calculates the average bulk fluid temperature and recalculates the results, and the tube metal temperatures and corrects the results.
