Generator rotor temperature and load stability testing:

Most generators that cause vibration problems going through certain megawatt load ranges, or are sensitive to certain reactive load ranges

Most generators that cause vibration problems going through certain megawatt load ranges, or are sensitive to certain reactive load ranges, can be successfully balanced by using the balance ring in the LP-generator coupling or the generator rotor balance rings.

3.1 This is not accomplished by eliminating the excursion but reducing its amplitude by changing balance weight configurations as required, so that the mid-point of the excursion takes the amplitude as close to zero as possible so the excursion is scarcely noticeable, unless phase angle readings are considered.

3.2 Data is collected on the generator and exciter (or collector rings) as in section 1, while controlling the operational parameters of the generator as follows:

3.2.1 Holding Mw load constant and varying the reactive load

3.2.2 Holding field amps constant while varying Mw and Mvar loads

3.2.3 Holding a constant power factor while varying Mw and Mvar loads
