Generator Gas Monitoring

Source: Environment One Corporation
The importance of monitoring hydrogen impacts on safety -- and profitability.
Hydrogen is used as a cooling agent for two reasons: 1) it has the best heat transfer characteristics of any gas, and 2) its low atomic weight makes it the lightest and therefore the lowest density of any stable gas (10% that of air) resulting in low windage losses. As purity drops windage losses increase, resulting in higher operating costs per megawatt.

Maintaining hydrogen at safe, non-combustible and non-explosive levels enhances operating efficiency and increases safety.
