GE supplying gas turbines for three power plants in the Western U.S.
Under contracts totaling nearly $35 million, GE Power Systems is supplying six industrial and aeroderivative gas turbines that will provide more than 100 megawatts for three new power plants in the western United States. The plants are owned by public utility districts in the states of Washington, Oregon and Arizona.
The Franklin County Public Utility District of Pasco, Wash. and the Grays Harbor Public Utility District of Grays Harbor, Wash. each have purchased two GE10 industrial gas turbines. The four 11-megawatt machines will be installed at a new power plant in Pasco jointly owned by the two utility districts. Half of the power will be sent to Grays Harbor, about 200 miles away.
The gas turbines will be used for peaking power and will be equipped with GE's Dry Low Emissions combustion systems to limit NOx emissions to 25 ppm and CO to 20 ppm. Commercial operation of the new plant is scheduled for later this year.
In the second project, the Clatskanie People's Utility District of Clatskanie, Oregon is installing a GE10 turbine-generator set at its Wauna substation. Offering low emissions and noise levels, the new unit will supply power for approximately 7,000 households. It is expected to enter commercial service in November, 2001.
For the third project, the Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPCO) has selected a GE LM6000PC aeroderivative gas turbine with SPRINT™ spray intercooling capabilities. The 47-megawatt machine will be used for peaking service at AEPCO's Apache Station in Cochise, Ariz., southeast of Tucson, and will enter commercial service by July of 2002.
The dual-fuel LM6000 gas turbine can be retrofitted for combined-cycle operation in the future. Existing equipment at the 520-megawatt Apache Station includes two coal-fired steam turbines and a GE Frame 5 gas turbine.
The five GE10 gas turbines for these projects will be manufactured and packaged at GE's Florence, Italy facility. The LM6000 will be packaged at the Houston, Texas facility of GE Aero Energy Products, a unit of GE Power Systems.
