GE's Distributed Power And Clarke Energy Collaborate On On-Site Power Plant To Boost Mozambique's Local Grid

Lagos Nigeria - GE Power & Water's Distributed Power business recently announced that Clarke Energy, GE's Jenbacher gas engine distributor for Mozambique since 2013, has secured its first Jenbacher gas engine order in the country with energy company Kuvaninga Energia. Clarke Energy is supplying 10 of GE's J624 natural gas engines for a 40-megawatt (MW) independent power production facility near the town of Chokwé, in the southern Mozambique province of Gaza. The engines are scheduled for delivery in Q3 2014.

Clarke Energy also will provide preventive maintenance services to maintain the facility's optimal availability.

Mozambique has an electricity grid with two separate, regional networks. The Kuvaninga Energia on-site power plant's Jenbacher units will generate needed electricity for Mozambique's southern grid. The power plant will be operated by ADC Projects.

Mozambique is ideally positioned to utilize natural gas for power generation because the country has the second largest gas reserves in Africa. The gas fields are being developed at an increasing rate by various multinational oil and gas companies.

Kuvaninga Energia represents one of the first major gas-fueled power projects in Mozambique. The project will utilize domestically-produced gas from Mozambique to help generate more reliable electricity supplies for the southern grid and help encourage economic growth.

Clarke Energy is now the authorized distributor and service provider for GE's Jenbacher gas engines in Mozambique, South Africa and Botswana.
