Lascomm's series of RS232 fiber optic modems offer four different models to handle all popular RS-232 applications. The LT3000 is low in price and high in reliability. It supports async data rates up to 19.2Kbps and can derive power from RS-232 signals or pin 9 of the DB25 connector (external DTE or DCE device) or external power adapter. Because of its versatility, the LT3100 can connect either synchronous (internal or external clock to 128K) or synchronous (to 64K) devices. It supports all popular internal clock rates including 2.4K, 4.8K, 19.2K, 38.4K, 64K, and 128K.

The LT3200 supports data rates up to 56K with one control (or handshake) and can also function as a 2-channel multiplexer by using the control signal as a data channel. This benefit makes the LT3200 particularly cost effective. A full handshaking modem, the LT3220 supports up to five bi-directional control signals (RTS, CTS, DTR, DCR, CD) and supports data rates up to 56K. All models are available in both multimode (850nm and 1300nm) and single mode versions and are compatible with popular types and sizes of fiber optic cable. Standard connectors are ST; SMA and FC are optional. Bit error rates are typically 1 in 109 or better. Power is 8V to 14VDC or 115/230VAC with an external power cube.

Typical applications include linking remote terminals to host computers, tail circuits to existing multiplexers, and situations requiring extending data communications links. RS-232 Fiber Optic Modems are ideal for connecting data communications devices in harsh manufacturing or outdoor environments where electromagnetic/radio frequency interference, ground loops, and lightning damage often exist. Data security is assured because fiber optic cable is virtually impossible to tap without detection. Lascomm's fiber optic modems are designed for local and campus networks up to distances of approximately 5km multimode and 20km single mode. Distances can vary depending on the size and type of fiber optic cable, number of connections, and type of fiber optic connectivity devices used in a given network.
