Enter Software Releases GateCycle Version 5.2 for Windows

By Stephen Heiser

Enter Software announced the release of the latest Windows version of its powerplant heat balance program GateCycle last week. The company spent two years rebuilding the underlying architecture of the interface using object-oriented design methods in C++. The new design is easier to use and more flexible than the previous version. In addition, Version 5.2 features the ability to incorporate new powerplant technologies and quickly add new features.

GateCycle for Windows is a very powerful, flexible, and fully featured powerplant forecasting tool. The program can be used to forecast both the design-performance and off-design-performance of combined-cycle systems, fossil-fuel-fired boiler plants, cogeneration systems, advanced gas-turbine units, and many other energy systems. GateCycle's open model building system and advanced features enable the user to model a wide variety of energy systems in a single software application.

New utilities in version 5.2 include the CycleLink program, which allows users to run any model and access any GateCycle data from within Microsoft Excel. With this utility, users can link their thermodynamic models directly into economic spreadsheets or pro-forma analyses. Other new features include intuitive model building, guided data entry, intuitive menus, individual project directories, automatic heat release diagram generation, enhanced reporting features, expanded model and gas-turbine libraries, improved units-of-measure handling, enhanced reporting via text files and Microsoft Access data grids, and support for embedding OLE objects, such as pictures and documents.

GateCycle boasts a base of over 500 users in 57 countries. GateCycle incorporates technology developed for the electric power industry developed under the sponsorship of EPRI, the Electric Power Research Institute.
