EnBW And Siemens Energy Sign First Power Purchase Agreement

Frankenförde photovoltaic park to supply Siemens Energy with up to 40 gigawatt-hours of solar power per year // Plant ensures secure supply for German sites // Further milestone in longstanding partnership.

EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW) and Siemens Energy have signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Frankenförde photovoltaic plant in Brandenburg. The solar park is located approximately 60 kilometers from Berlin and was completed in June 2025. It will supply Siemens Energy with green electricity for a ten-year contract term starting 1 January 2026.

Siemens Energy has met its entire global electricity needs with green electricity since 2023, documented with internationally recognized certificates of origin. The energy technology group has now gone one step further with the newly signed power purchase agreement (PPA) securing around 40 gigawatt-hours per year from the new solar park near Berlin. The plant has a capacity of 40.8 megawatts peak (MWp). Siemens Energy is the sole purchaser of the green electricity generated by the plant and will meet almost a quarter of the electricity requirements for its German sites under the PPA.

“This power purchase agreement gives us a long-term supply of regionally generated renewable energy for our German sites. That further enhances our security of supply, reduces emissions and contributes to the structural transformation of the energy system. Partnerships like these are a further building block toward making our business activities climate-neutral by 2030,” said Dieter Vollkommer, Head of Sustainability at Siemens Energy.

David Beaton, Commercial Director Trading at EnBW, said: “We are delighted to support Siemens Energy on its journey to greater sustainability. By providing tailored solutions for the supply of energy, we are making a direct contribution to decarbonizing industry.”

For EnBW, the agreement is the latest in a string of successes strengthening its position as a leading PPA provider, Beaton added.

Long-term collaboration and joint accomplishments
The agreement also marks another milestone in a close, longstanding partnership between EnBW and Siemens Energy. The two companies already have a track record of joint projects that contribute to secure and sustainable energy supplies. These include the construction of a new hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plant in Stuttgart-Münster, the Hohe See and Albatros offshore wind farms in the North Sea – which together supply more than 630 megawatts of green electricity for the equivalent of around 710,000 households – and collaboration on the SuedLink project, a key cable link to transmit renewable energy from the windy north of Germany to where demand is centered in the south.
