Eco-Tec Sells Water Treatment And Condensate Polishing System To Kruger

Eco-Tec Inc. announced the sale of a water treatment and condensate polishing system to Kruger, Energy Group for their Bromptonville Cogeneration Project located in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.

The Bromptonville project will initially involve the installation of a boiler to burn paper mill sludge, bark and other wood residues. Afterwards, a steam turbine will be installed downstream from the boiler to generate electricity and supply the steam required for mill operations. Kruger, Energy Group considered several suppliers for the water treatment section of the project. Most of the suppliers proposed pre-filtration. The source of water to be used to produce demineralized water for boiler make-up is clarified river water, which periodically encounters high turbidity depending on river conditions. In order to meet the requirement for the treated water to contain low organic concentrations (TOC), all proposed systems featured filtration followed by reverse osmosis. However for polishing the reverse osmosis permeate to final water quality, a variety of systems were proposed including electrodeionization, and ion exchange polishing with either on-site or off-site regeneration. After evaluating several factors including installed cost and life cycle cost, the system proposed by Eco-Tec Inc. was selected.

The advantages of this system include: the Spectrum Lite Micro Media Filters providing superior quality filtrate of <0.1 NTU; three R.O. banks optimizing the performance of the system as no bank will sit idle for extended periods of time; and the on-site Recoflo® Ion Exchange Polisher which will treat and produce the required water quality and will minimize the long-term operation costs compared to off-site service exchange. The system does feature a service exchange polisher system to handle capacity peaks and to provide backup capacity for the Recoflo® polisher. As with all of Eco-Tec's equipment, the system will be skid-mounted and pre-tested to produce the specified water quality in Eco-Tec's manufacturing facility prior to shipping.
