In most cases cogeneration is used for heating purposes
In most cases cogeneration is used for heating purposes. The heat can be used for single buildings or is fed into a district heating network.

The temperature in the flow direction from the cogeneration plant is normally 90° C (194° F), in the return direction about 70° C (158° F).

To compensate for fluctuations of heat demand during operation, a hot water accumulator is necessary. To supply heat during peak demand periods a peak boiler is added.
