ELCOAT 240 is a chromium diffusion coating developed for improved protection of superalloys against aggressive attack at medium-high temperatures (700-850°C metal temp.). The coating is produced in a pack cementation process at approximately 1100°C. It contains 50+% of chromium. This coating has a balanced chemical composition, designed to give improved protective qualities against Type II and Type I corrosion up to 850°C of nickel and cobalt base superalloys. It has two protective zones:
•An outer layer alpha chromium with fine alumina inclusions
•An inner diffusion zone with chromium enriched base material
