Cat introduces 1500 rpm rating for diesel generator set
Caterpillar (Peoria, IL) recently introduced the 1500 rpm rating for the 3406E diesel generator set, offered in 50 Hz and 60 Hz, prime and standby. Available in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia, the 3406E system provides customers with a product for intermediate ratings, expanding the company's electronic engine offerings, said Jeanne Dyer with Caterpillar's Engine Division.

The 3406E gen set combines Caterpillar's field-proven 3406E ATAAC electronic engine with ADEM II controls and the time-tested Cat SR4B Generator. At 50 Hz, the new package nets a rating of 450 to 500 kVA standby and 410 to 455 kVA prime, Dyer said. At 60 Hz, the 3406E package delivers a rating of 450 ekW standby and 410 ekW prime.

Compared to earlier models, Dyer said the 3406E gen set provides 10% better fuel economy, along with improved motor starting capability, increased reliability through electronics, more convenient serviceability and exceptional durability.

The 3406E gen set offers a wide range of system attachments, fully assembled and connected, providing easy tailoring to any job site, she said. Weather protective and sound attenuated enclosures are also available.
