Black & Veatch Expands Renewable Energy Group

Overland Park, KS - Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, is expanding its renewable energy group to support growing client initiatives to improve communities and the quality of life around the world.

The company has shifted portions of its renewable energy group into existing offices in Denver and San Francisco, while also expanding its renewable energy professionals presence in other offices throughout the United States and globally.

"Renewable energy is a fast growing market as we work with clients to incorporate emerging technologies into their long-term plans and implement proven technology today to meet growing consumer demand for additional energy supply," said Dean Oskvig, President and CEO of Black & Veatch's global energy business. "Many regions are quickly moving toward a goal of having 20 percent or more of the power supply provided by renewable energy sources – more than tripling the renewable energy supply."

Black & Veatch is currently active in and has participated in numerous renewable energy projects across the United States, Europe and Asia. This includes providing engineering and construction management services for the world's largest roller-compacted concrete dam and hydroelectric facility in China.

In the United Kingdom, the company is supporting development of innovative ocean energy technologies and reviewing plans to generate biogas from food waste. In the United States, the company is the independent engineer for one of the largest solar photovoltaic projects, and is engaged in consulting and design work for numerous other wind, biomass, geothermal and hydroelectric projects.

"Geographic expansion allows us to further support our clients in these regions, and will help us expand our expertise in implementing solutions to address energy assurance," said Oskvig. "Renewable energy has the potential to improve a utility's environmental footprint while supplementing a community's power supply with a reliable and cost-effective fuel choice."

The expansion of the renewable energy group builds upon Black & Veatch's broad base of approximately 3,500 engineers and engineering technicians worldwide who continue to focus on climate change and water scarcity challenges associated with providing power generation, water and wastewater treatment, petrochemical, industrial and environmental clean-up solutions.
