Black & Veatch-Designed Power Plant Brings 'Economic Boom' And Sustainable Benefits To Northeastern Arkansas
Plum Point Energy Station provides jobs and environmental advantages
The new, Black & Veatch-designed Plum Point Energy Station is now providing sustainable benefits to the people of Mississippi County, Ark., generating the energy equivalent to power about 650,000 homes while reducing air emissions in the region. During construction, Plum Point employed 1,500 workers at the project site and has created more than 100 permanent full-time jobs.
"One of the direct benefits we enjoyed as a result of the Plum Point Energy Station was the local economic boom during the four-year construction period," said Dickie Kennmore, Mayor of Osceola, Ark."We have also purchased a portion of the plant's generation, which allows our locally owned power company to continue to supply our citizens with a reliable source of economic power. This will promote economic growth, affordable residential power and consequently improve the quality of life in the region."
The approximately $1 billion Plum Point Energy Station provides low-cost electricity to wholesale purchasers in Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi through power purchase agreements and/or joint ownership of the facility.
The facility also provides environmental benefits through efficiency and use of environmental control technologies. Higher efficiency means the facility burns less fuel to produce electricity.
"The size and efficiency of Plum Point helps keep older, less efficient plants from having to run," said Roger Lenertz, Vice President in Black & Veatch's global energy business. "This is a substantial environmental benefit since the facility emits 25 percent less carbon dioxide than the older plants."
