Bechtel Selected As Project Management Contractor For Nuclear Plant Project In Wales, UK

Wylfa Newydd power station to supply low-carbon electricity to as many as 5.5 million homes and businesses

Reston, VA /PRNewswire/ - Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, procurement, construction, and project management, today announced it has been selected by Horizon Nuclear Power to be project management contractor for a new, two-reactor nuclear plant in Wales, United Kingdom.

The Wylfa Newydd power station is to be built on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales and is a key part of the UK's plans to provide low-carbon energy by replacing aging nuclear stations and fossil fuel plants with modern nuclear plants and renewable energy.

Bechtel project management, procurement, and subcontract management professionals will be embedded within Horizon's organization to lead the commercial and contractual relationships with local, UK, and global suppliers that will be required to complete the project.

Bechtel has been a leader in nuclear services across the facility lifecycle. Since the 1950's, Bechtel has performed services on more than 150 nuclear power plants around the world including Watts Bar Unit 2 in Tennessee, the last reactor to start up in the U.S. and the first to come online in the 21st century.

Bechtel is now completing construction on Plants Vogtle Units 3 and 4 in the U.S. state of Georgia, the only active construction of a new nuclear plant in the nation.
