The most efficient, natural way to harness wind power just got better with the introduction of The Cincinnati Gear Group's 1.5 Megawatt Wind Turbine Gear Unit. Cincinnati Gear, a worldwide manufacturer of power generation gears and gearboxes, has been involved in the development of wind power drive systems since the early 1980's. Over the past twenty plus years, the company has designed numerous wind turbine gear systems ranging from 500 kW to 2.0 MW in generated power, delivering well over 700 units to the field.

The Cincinnati Gear Group has a combined experience of over 100 years in the design and development of epicyclic and parallel shaft power generation gears. This experience and expertise has been key in the development of the 1.5 MW Wind Turbine Gear. The combined parallel shaft / compound epicyclic design provides not only a compact size but also increases the load carrying capacity and service life of the unit while minimizing power losses and unit size.

With 1.66 MW rated power, the design has a calculated life of 20 years with a 1.5 factor of safety for strength and a 1.2 factor of safety for pitting using Miner's rule and a typical wind turbine duty cycle. Features include an integrated oil sump, electric motor driven lube pump, high capacity filtration and visual inspection ports for all gear meshes. The gearbox has an input speed of 20 RPM, an output speed of 1,440 RPM and a ratio of 72:1. All gearing meets AGMA / AWEA 921-A97 and Germanischer Lloyd standards.
