Boiler Tube Life Assessment
As power plant boilers age, superheater and reheater sections are often replaced when tube failures begin to impact unit availability. Structural Integrity measures tube wall and internal oxide scale thickness, then uses Lifecode software to predict remaining tube life. The software converts these measurements into deterministic or probabilistic remaining life of the tube, and an economic forecast of tubing performance.
Also developed is a digital UT technique for imaging dissimilar metal welds (DMW) and determining the degree of damage. Maintenance planners are able to selectively remove damaged DMW's before they fail, preventing forced outages and reactionary planning.
