Presentation: Dry Sorbent Injection Of Trona For SO2, HCl And HF Mitigation At A Waste-To-Energy Power Plant

This case study and trial, compiled for the EUEC and presented by SOLVAir Solutions' Dr. Yougen Kong, details trona trials for SO2, HCl and HF mitigation at a multi-fuel waste-to-energy power plant. Included in the document is detailed information on trona; as well as parameters affecting performance, including sorbent particle size, resident time in the flue gas stream, and the particulate control device used. In summary, trials showed trona to be effective in removing SO2, SO3, HCl and HF. Higher flue gas temperature improved the efficiency of SO2 removal. The trona utilization was increased by 30% at the same SO2 removal rate by raising the temperature from 285 degrees F to 330 degrees F. The effect on Hg removal by trona was not conclusive, but other tests have shown up to 70% removal.
