Dallas, TX /PRNewswire/ - Tri Global Energy, the Dallas-based renewable energy company, continues as the leading developer of wind energy projects under construction in Texas, according to the U.S. Wind Industry Fourth Quarter 2015 Market Report from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), the nation's trade association of the U.S. wind energy industry.

With nearly 2,100 megawatts (MW) of wind power projects currently under construction in Texas, Tri Global Energy's wind projects represent just under one half of all wind power projects being developed in the state. Texas has a total of 4,600 MW of wind projects currently under construction. A total of 9,400 MW of wind projects, including those in Texas, are now under construction in the U.S.

Wind accounts for nearly all of the electricity generated from renewable resources in Texas, which easily leads all other states in wind power projects under construction. Globally, Texas is the sixth-biggest producer of wind electricity, following India and just ahead of the UK.

"The U.S. wind industry hasn't seen this kind of rapid growth for years," said John Billingsley, Chairman and CEO of Tri Global Energy. "For many communities in Texas, especially those in the Panhandle where wind projects dominate the landscape, wind has become a key pillar of economic development – and I expect this to remain for some time to come."

Currently there is a total of 72 wind projects under construction in 22 states plus Guam. Behind Texas in wind project construction are Oklahoma with 695 MW, Nebraska with 436 MW, Minnesota with 429 MW, Kansas with 353 MW and New Mexico with 331 MW, according to AWEA's Market Report.
