Beck, Inc. and engineering, management and development consultancy Mott MacDonald Group have formed a joint venture, Beck-Mott MacDonald Power Systems, to offer a wider range of services to the electric power industry.

The primary focus of the new entity will be to assist utilities with transmission and distribution services, which will be enhanced by combining the resources of both firms.

Jim Baxter, P.E., Chairman of the new joint venture and R. W. Beck's Director of National Energy Services, says, "R. W. Beck's capabilities in assisting utilities will be greatly complemented by the enhanced transmission and distribution services Mott MacDonald provides. Already, we are undertaking numerous U.S.-based transmission and distribution projects with National Grid, worth over $1 million, as a result of our Joint Venture." These projects involve preliminary engineering, detailed design and asset condition analysis of the transmission and distribution system.

Peter Black, C. Eng., Managing Director, Power Systems Division of Mott MacDonald, agreed, saying, "This joint venture will extend Mott MacDonald's presence into the U.S. transmission market, which is forecast to be very active in the coming years as electric infrastructure improvement needs arise."
