Reconstruction of cooling tower shell or casing: Check of the strength of concrete and the depths of carbonation; assessment of the degree of corrosion of steel structures and reinforcement steel, examination of timber structures and assessment of stability; performance of the necessary refurbishment and upgrading work. Renewal of the thermo-hydraulic equipment: replacement of damaged individual components, replacement of the entire cooling fill by applying one of a more modern and efficient design; reduction of the drift loss by retrofitting or replacing drift eliminators; improvement of the water distribution system; reduction of noise emission by installation of impingement baffles.

Renewal of the mechanical equipment: installation of low-noise fans; changing the drive for multispeed operation or continuous control via frequency transformers; retrofitting of sound attenuators.
