Conceived from the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act's (CERCLIS) database. This profile contains information on potentially hazardous waste sites that have been reported to the Environmental Protection Agency by state, municipalities, private companies and private persons.

Responsibility at Superfund Sites

The information included in this report is extracted from EPA's Site Enforcement Tracking System (SETS) and CERCLIS. The report identifies Superfund sites where a subject name is listed as a potentially responsible party (PRP).

Spill Notification

The Emergency Response Notification System (ERNS) report from EPA data includes information on reported release of oil and hazardous substances. This data comes from spill reports made to the EPA, U.S. Coast Guard, the National Response Center and/or the Department of Transportation. Some 60,000 spills occurring since 1987 are included.

Hazardous Waste Handler (RCRA Facility Profile)

Provides specific RCRA permit, inspection and enforcement information about hazardous waste activity at a particular facility.

Toxic Release Annual Report (TRIS Summary)

The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) of 1986 requires EPA to establish an inventory of toxic chemical emissions from certain facilities (Toxic Release Inventory System). This profile includes site information and chemicals released.

Leaking Tanks Detail

Leaking Underground Storage Tanks are a major cause of soil and groundwater contamination. Along with stricter regulations of UST's, many states have begun to maintain lists of reported LUST's. VISTAinfo collects LUST databases from all 45 states that maintain this information.
