The Capstone MicroTurbine is a compact, low emission, power generation system providing electrical power up to 30kW. A turbogenerator is coupled with solid-state [power electronics to allow grid-connect operation. Systems are available for operation on diverse gaseous fuels, including natural gas, propane, and also bio-gas with energy content as low as 350 BTU/cf. A sour gas option is available that can tolerate up to 7% hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the fuel stream. Liquid fuel versions include kerosene and diesel #2.
The turbogenerator incorporates a compressor, recuperator, turbine, and permanent magnet generator. The rotating components are mounted on a single shaft, supported by patented air bearings, and rotate at up to 96,000 RPM (full load). The generator is cooled by airflow into the gas turbine, thus eliminating the need for liquid cooling. The output of the system is variable frequency (50 or 60 Hz) AC power.
